SPECIES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ARE REVIEW-LIST SPECIES. Details of these
sightings are desired by The Ohio Bird Records Committee. Careful observation,
not ornithological expertise, is the only qualification for submitting your
data. For details and pointers see:
http://www.ohiobirds.org/records/documentation.php

Long-tailed Duck: Ray Hannikman found a very rare summer visitor at Headlands
Beach State Park on the 25th.

Little Blue Heron: An adult was reported in the section of Medusa Marsh, Erie
County, northeast of the intersection of OH 2 and OH 269 from the 24th to the
26th. Single juveniles were seen by Sheryl Young on the 26th at Willow Pt.
Wildlife Area, Sandusky County, and by Bob Foppe on the 27th at Camp Dennison,
Hamilton County.

TRICOLORED HERON: A bird found by Jen Brumfield on the 24th at the Medusa Marsh
location mentioned above was reported through the 27th.

WOOD STORK: One of only a handful of Ohio records and the first to be
"chasable". Robert Schlabach, following a tip, located two juvenile birds in
Coshocton County south of Plainfield on the 25th or 26th. Bruce Glick reported
them to the Ohiobirds list-serv on the 26th. Numerous birders have seen them
since, with a third juvenile being added on the 27th. Bruce provided these
directions: "Old DeLorme Page 61 5C. From U.S. Route 36 east of Coshocton, take
State Route 93 south through West Lafayette and Plainfield. Stay on route 93
south, passing the Y where SR Rt. 541 goes off to the southeast, and after
another 1-2 miles, just after a mowed hayfield on the right, take C.R. 145 to
the right (west) for approx. .5 -.7 miles - to a small V-shaped pond, just
after a bridge over a creek. The pond is right beside the gravel road on the
right side and recent cuttings of branches (power company) are on the ground by
the road."

American Avocet: Two birds were at Conneaut, Ashtabula County, on the 24th.
Another was seen at Headlands Beach State Park on the 25th.

Whimbrel: Craig Holt saw two at Conneaut, Ashtabula County, on the 24th.

Marbled Godwit: On the 28th, Bill Heck found one at the much birded flooded
fields south of the railroad tracks on CR 292 northwest of Bellevue. Bob Baran
photographed one at Glacier Ridge MetroPark, Union County, on the 22nd. It was
seen by numerous birders through the 28th. On the 29th, Aaron Boone found one
at O'Shaughnessy Nature Preserve, Franklin County, (off Dublin Road just north
of the town of Shawnee Hills) that is suspected of being the same bird. Aaron
provided this Google Map: http://tinyurl.com/5qdj78.

Western Sandpiper: John Habig spotted six on a mudflat in the Great Miami River
across from Carillon Park, Dayton, on the 22nd. Two hung around to be
photographed by Rick Asamato on the 25th. Photos at
http://www.ohiobirds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=870.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper: One continued to be reported at the flooded field near
the railroad tracks along TR 292 in Sandusky County, just north of the Seneca
County line, from the 25th to the 28th.

Red-necked Phalarope: On the 22nd, Kenn Kaufman saw one juvenile at the
"Sprague's Pipit" flooded field along South Ridge Road (175) about 2 miles
east-northeast of US 20 in Sandusky County. It was relocated on the 24th. Rob
Lowry found two in Sandusky County at the flooded fields south of the railroad
tracks on CR 292 northwest of Bellevue on the 27th and 28th. Ray Hannikman
reported one from Highlands Beach State Park on the 27th.

Olive-sided Flycatcher: Reported on the 25th from Highlands Beach State Park by
Ray Hannikman; by Rob Thorn on the 26th from Blendon Woods MetroPark, Franklin
County, where Thoreau Trail crosses the pipeline right-of-way; and from the
boardwalk at Shaker Lakes Nature Center on the 28th by Matt Valencic.

Connecticut Warbler: Ray Hannikman reported a "well-analyzed" Connecticut
Warbler from Headlands Beach State Park on the 23rd.

Yellow-headed Blackbird: On the 22nd, Kenn Kaufman spotted a female amid the
starlings at the flooded field on T80, a half-mile south of the Sandusky-Seneca
county line west of Bellevue.
