Spencer,

I'd say you've perfectly described a young Red Headed Woodpecker.  If
you go to Google's image search page and type in immature red headed
woodpecker, you'll see lots of pics that fit your description,
including this one:

If this turns out to be your bird, nice find.  Always nice to see them
in Ohio, as it's not as easy as it used to be to stumble upon them.
