Several nights since Friday Aug. 1, I have been visiting the Sells Middle
School site in Dublin Ohio (Franklin, Ohio). This is west of Dublin Rd on
161/Rt 33. Pull in behind the school just before 8:30 and by 9pm. Swifts
are circling the chimney and coming in from all directions. There were
close to 200 or more birds on Friday eve. and Monday eve. when I pulled in
for about 20 minutes.

It really is a wonderful spectacle to observe. Feeding and staging before
they head to the Amazon Basin of Peru.

Time to check out the older chimneys in our older buildings.

Then go to www.chimneyswifts.org

From their website are the following instructions:

This year, on one night over the weekend of August 8, 9, 10, and / or
September 12, 13, 14 observe the roost starting about 30 minutes before dusk
and estimate the number of swifts that enter. When you have your number,
email us at [log in to unmask] That's all there is to it!

We ask that you include the following information:

* Number of swifts counted
* Time
* Date
* Location
* Broad description of the site, e.g. school, warehouse, residence, Chimney
Swift Tower, etc.
* Weather conditions may also be reported.

To view this year's results, go to:

Thanks & happy counting!
