A cool morning yesterday at Prairie Oaks MetroPark (along Darby Creek west of Columbus) produced only a few migrants. Water levels at potential shorebird sites here were still somewhat high, so shorebirds were in linited numbers. Landbird migrants were also scarce, exccept for swallows. Highlights, such as they were, included:

Shorebirds: Darby Bend Lakes were high and had only kildeer. The ponds at the Oaks picnic area (where the King Rail family was several years back) were also somewhat high, but did have Lesser Yellowlegs & Solitary Spr. A Woodcock flushed up along the Coneflower Trail.

Swallows: 5 different species, with top number going to Purple Martins, which had a roost of 50+ individuals at Darby Bend Lakes. At one point a passing Cooper's Hawk flushed them all off the trees, in one large whistling and twittering mob. Fairly good numbers of Cliff swallows were also present, along with a few Bank, Barn, and Tree.

Flycatchers - lots of Pewees (6-8), above the summer resident numbers, were present, along with fewer Phoebes, Crested Flycatchers, and E.Kingbirds

Sparrows - no obvious migrants, but plenty of Field, Song, and Chipping sparrows at several spots.

Baltimore Orioles - 4 were foraging along the Coneflower trail, which is a good number here.
