I was at Sandy Ridge for a walk around the ponds with the kids on
Sunday. The most interesting thing
to me at least were the 3 pairs of indigo buntings around the west
pond trail. There is a pair per leg of the path.
The females had me wondering what they were at first because the hid
in the Queen Anne's lace and
low shrubs. The grasses would wiggle a lot when they ran around on
the ground and once in a while they would
pop up and eye me before dropping down again. I thought that maybe
they were female common yellow throats
because of they way they hid. Their mates gave them away though.

There were some black ducks and two Caspian terns. Also a lot of
cedar waxwings were hopping from stump to stump in the ponds.
I have never seen then so low to the ground or water as it were. They
cruised the thin stumps that were no more than 2 feet above the water
line.
