(Stark Co.)10_Craig [log in to unmask], 16 Aug 2008 14:33:28 -0700640_iso-8859-1 Greetings---the water level is finally dropping at Berlin Res. (Mahoning, Portage, and Stark Counties).  Choice mudflats are now developing at the SW end of the lake, in Stark Co.  Access them by parking beside the little blue bridge on Greenbower Rd. and walking NE along the eastern shore.  If the lake keeps dropping, the mudflats will progress NE towards the Price Rd. bridge and then the State Rte. 225 bridge.  Found in this area today: 10 wood ducks, 20 double-crested cormorants, great blue herons, 17 great egrets, osprey (they nest here), killdeers, 14 lesser yellowlegs, 8 solitary sandpipers, spotted sandpiper, [...]44_16Aug200814:33:[log in to unmask]

The mudflats looked very good, and the weatherman says they should be
getting better.  (No rain til Thursday?)

Lesser yellowlegs - 9
Solitary sp - 7
Least sp - 9
Semipalmated plover - 1
Semipalmated sp - 9
WHITE-RUMPED SP - 2
Great blue herons - 29
Killdeer - way, way, way too many to count

Other sightings:

Wood ducks - 16
Ring-billed gull - 1
Turkey vultures - 6
Cedar waxwings - many, many
Chimney swifts - 100s
Barn, tree, and rough-winged swallows
American crows
Canada geese
Mallards
Chipping sparrows - 2
