Hey All,

Just got back from a trip out to the Wellington Reservation of the Lorain
County Metroparks. I went specifically to look for shorebirds and the
trip did not disappoint. The wetlands that run through much of the grassy
fields are quite low and in some places very muddy. Shorebirds seen:

Least Sandpiper 20+
Semi-Palmated Sandpiper a few
Pectoral Sandpiper 1 or two
Solitary Sandpiper 10+
Spotted Sandpiper a couple
Lesser Yellowlegs 10-15
Killdeer loads obviously
Semi-Palmated Plover a couple
One Sandpiper I couldn't ID

I got some decent photos of the lesser yellowlegs that I will put up on
rarebird probably sometime tonight after 9 pm.

The grasslands were also teaming with bird activity. I wasn't actively
trying to see and ID all the birds as I made my way from wetland to
wetland but some birds I can positively ID:

Eastern Phoebe
Eastern Kingbird
Eastern Bluebird
Song Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Indigo Bunting male and female
Goldfinch HUNDREDS
Eastern Meadowlark
Mallard Duck
Blue-Winged Teal I think
Catbird
Robin
Cooper's Hawk Juvie
Great Blue Heron
Flycatchers I can't ID these guys by sight
Red-Bellied Woodpecker
Turkey Vultures
Canada Goose

Also driving out to Wellington on the country roads I had a Red-Tailed
Hawk and Kestrels on the powerlines.

If you have never been to Wellington its definitely worth the effort and
drive as there are birds everywhere.

Take Care,

Matt Vosniak
