Was driving down Phelps Road near York Center and spotted a Belted Kingfisher (it looked to be a male but I can't be sure..it had it's back to me...feeding in a stream that crosses the road. I was able to get some pics from my car. I posted them on the OOS sight in the members gallery if anyone is interested (look for "The King has left the Bldg")

The bird has been there all month, but getting pictures has been tricky. I don't know if it is feeding young ones nearby. But what it did today was stay long enough to get a hundred shoots off then it dove into the water and immediately made a bee line down stream. The only time that I have observed kingfishers in the past feeding, they dive then go back to the branch and dive again...so maybe some young ones nearby?

There is also plenty of thistles in the area so chickadees were also plentiful and a couple of eastern kingbirds feeding on insects. The kingbirds were using the same tree to perch on that the kingfisher was using, just on a different day.

Later

Steve
