For a birder of my skill level, there are not too many things in life appreciated more than having birds stay out in the open nearby so you can study the heck out of them, and even check your field guide while still studying the bird.

While standing in the rain and mud just after sunrise this morning at Lorain Impoundment, I had a beautiful Red-Necked Pharalope in striking winter plumage provide me with just such a treat, and a Sora came out of the reeds for quite a while too.

Also Yellowlegs, Mallards, Canada Geese, Killdeer, and a lot of busy sandpipers I wasn't able to identify, along with about 1,000,000 mosquitos that were fairly intent on getting into my eyeballs.
