The last day of September found late migrants moving down this rivercourse near NW Columbus in good numbers. Many of the insectivores - warblers, flycatchers, swallows - were little in evidence, and the morning was dominated by later migrants. I stopped at both Kiwanis Riverwalk and up further at O'Shaughnessy dam & Frink Park. Highlights included

8+ Great Blue Herons, but no other herons (this can be a good spot for migrant Great Egrets and green herons)

1 Ruddy Duck (an early migrant) at O'Shaughnessy dam

No swifts or swallows, which is surprising here, given the dam and proximity to the massive swift roost at nearby Sells Middle School.

Woodpeckers - good morning, with lots of residents, along with 8+ Flickers and 2 Sapsuckers

Flycatchers - only a single Pewee, at Frink Park

Vireos - single Blue-headeds at both Kiwanis and Frink

Wrens - 3-4 Carolinas and 1 Winter at each site, along with 2-3 House still lurking around Kiwanis

Thrushes - loads of Robins everywhere; only a few Swainson's (both at Frink)

Warblers - 8 species, again mostly hardy: Yellow-rumps, Cape May, Black-thr.Green, Chesnut-sided, redstart, Magnolia, Yellowthroat. The one exception was a beautiful female Hooded at Kiwanis, which is quite late for this species.

Grosbeaks,Buntings, tanagers - 2 Rose-br.Grosbeaks at Kiwanis was good, but nothing else was found in this group

Sparrows - the first small flocks of migrant White-throateds were foraging at Kiwanis, and a few Chipping were at Frink

Blackbirds - only a few redwings were flying south down the river, while small flocks of grackles were foraging at several spots along the river.
