On Thursday evening Sept. 4 a state wildlife officer called me to report he was in the midst of well over 100 nighthawks circling, diving, swirling, etc. over a meadow near I 90 in Kirtland Hills, Lake County. The flock height was from 20 to about 100 feet above the ground. He reported there seemed to be no apparent directional drift of the flock.
