The Wood Storks were there today (I passed by on the long way back to Akron from Columbus)...I ran into Jim Valencia (sp?) who had been there from approximately 4-4:30 and they were there the whole time.  They remained until I left close to 6:00 pm.  They were an amazing sight.  Two were narcissistic, preening and interested in "looking good"...and one was interested in "eating good."   One of the two were narcissists went on to fishing, while the other one poised beautifullly for nearly  20 minutes on one leg, preened and flufffed up...not bad for an "ugly American" bird.  
 
Not sure if the inquiry on the raised wing was resolved...but looking in Pete Dunne's field guide companion, he states it is not uncommon for them to do that to shade the water for better views of fish.
