Mound Road has fairly extensive mud banks now and should be in optimal
shorebird condition for the next week or 10 days. Here is my list for this
morning:
Killdeer 35
Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Solitary Sandpiper 13
Semipalmated Sandpiper 3
Least Sandpiper 12
Pectoral Sandpiper 1
In addition, there was a a Pileated Woodpecker, a Great Egret, two Great
Blue Herons, a pair of Wood Duck, a pair of Mallard, and a flock of about 30
Northern Rough-winged Swallows.
Larry Gara arrived as I was departing. He had checked the beach and found
nothing there. I went around to the pond at the "restored wetland" and
found a Killdeer and a Sora feeding along the margin. The Sora was
particularly interesting to me as I tried a couple of years ago to find Sora
here in the spring with no success. There is a lot of likely-looking
habitat here and it may bear another try in the spring.

.
Cheers,
Bob
