My goodness, I'd probably be fired for forgetting Rutherford Wetland and
the Ora Anderson Nature Trail. Located on the Athens Ranger District with
a paved accessible trail. The trail is 1/2 mile in and the same out.
Built on an abandoned railroad bed in between Rutherford Wetland and Monday
Creek. Located in Hocking Co. along St. Rt. 278 about 1.5 miles north of
Carbon Hill. The trail has interpretative paneling and poems from Mr.
Andersons along the entire length. There is also a nice overlook of the
wetland in the upper parking area.

The website also has a downloadable map of the trail and wetland.

If you are interested in coming to beautiful southeastern Ohio I would
suggest checking out the Hockhocking Adena bikeway that runs adjacent to
the Hocking River. Very flat and asphalt covered. Nice diversity of
habitats: forest, fallow fields, cropland, etc. You can find more info on
it and other birding areas along the Hocking Valley Birding Trail at
http://birdhocking.com/adena_bikeway.htm

Dear List,

I am still recovering from a broken leg, but my wife and I want to get
out for some birding near Oberlin (20 mi sw of Cleveland airport).

I know about the boardwalk at Magee Marsh, but most places near here
have gravel or mud trails, which is too much for my wheelchair. In
particular, Sandy Ridge, our best closest bet, is too difficult.

Someone mentioned that Columbia Reservation Metropark has some asphalt
trails but I don't know if the birding is any good.

Thanks for any suggestions.

David Riggs
