A screech owl was calling from a tree in my neighbor's yard yesterday
in Avon Lake.
I stood under the tree looking for it and I noticed that the sound
was very soft compared to one
I heard on a night hike a couple weeks ago in Findley State Park.
while camping with Cub Scouts. That bird was
really loud. None of the boys had ever heard one and they all started
imitating it immediately before I could even get the words
out as to what that spooky sound was. The moon was full and we got
to see the bird fly across the road against the bright moonlit sky.
The bird across the street''s call was very faint. At first we were
unsure if it was really in this small birch tree until we circled the
tree to be sure.

I wonder if this is just individual ability or if the birds change
their volume for some reason.

Terry
