[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 18 Oct 2008 21:24:58 -0400502_UTF-8 Visited Slate Run wetlands (Pickaway Co., south of Columbus) this morning with Philip North, hoping to find some unusual sparrows. We found a good diversity of temperate migrants, with a lone Pine Siskin flyover as the best bird, but no unexpected sparrows. A brief summary of our sightings:

Herons - surprisingly few, with single Great Blue Heron and Great Egret. This paucity was even more unusual since the water level was low, and there were lots of frogs and tadpoles still out. [...]44_18Oct200821:24:[log in to unmask]

Very few numbers of birds but a nice selection nonetheless.

WILSON'S SNIPE - 1
Great blue heron - 10
Killdeer - 25
Least sp - 2
Semipalmated sp - 1
Stilt sp - 1
Solitary sp - 1
Pectoral sp - 2
Green-winged teals - 8
Wood ducks - 11
Ring-billed gull - 1
Chimney swifts - 50+
Barn swallows - 15
Rough-winged swallows - 10
Yellow-rumped warblers
Cedar waxwings
Ruby-crowned kinglet
And some of the 'regular stuff'--kinda slow today
