This is the Ohio Statewide Rare Bird Report for
October 17, 2008.

SPECIES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ARE REVIEW-LIST
SPECIES. Details of these sightings are desired by The
Ohio Bird Records Committee. Careful observation, not
ornithological expertise, is the only qualification

YELLOW RAIL - Ethan Kistler relayed that one was
reported to the Bobolink Area RBA.  It was found at
Funk Bottoms on 10/11.

Hudsonian Godwit - Steve Jones saw the now famous bird
at Big Island on 10/13.  It has not been reported
since.

Franklin's Gull - This species made a move into the
area this week.  On 10/11 Bill Stanley found 2 birds
resting on South Beach at East Fork State Park.  Kathi
Hutton found them again on 10/15.  Jill Bowers
reported 1 bird sitting on the concrete pier along
Lakeshore Drive at Grand Lake Saint Marys on 10/12.

LeContes Sparrow - Dan Sanders and friends found 2
birds along the Wake Robin trail at Mentor Marsh on
10/11.

Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow - Dan Sanders spotted
several of this species along the Wake Robin Trail at
Mentor Marsh on 10/11.  Gabe Leidy found up to 4 there
the next day.  On 10/11 David Brinkman discovered 3
birds at Miami Whitewater Wetlands.  1 remained there
on 10/14 for Ron Kolde.

Connecticut Warbler - One bird was a great find for
David Brinkman at Farbach Werner Nature Preserve on
10/15.

Red Crossbill - Matt Anderson had one fly over his
home in Whitehouse on 10/12.
