Yesterday at the new Darby Greenway Trail I saw a bird that I cannot find in
any of my guides. It probably is not rare, but I need help in
identification.

The bird was sparrow-size (and in fact looked a lot like a sparrow) with a
small bill, brown feathers - but the distinguishing feature was a yellow
stripe in the middle of it's head from the beak to where the back begins. It
also had some yellow on its wings. On the head were white stripes on either
side of the yellow, but the yellow was definitely in the middle of the head.
At first I thought I was seeing a variation of a white-throated or
white-crowned sparrow, but can't find any that look like this particular guy
in any of the guides.

Help, please. You experts out there (especially those who have been over at
Darby) might be able to shed some light on this little guy.

Thanks,
Verna Ansel
