I spent several hours this morning at Hoover, focusing on just a few spots to (a) scan the lake for strays, and (2) look for likely accumulations of late migrants. Stopped at the dam, Maxtown Rd launch, Sunbury Causeway, Hoover Meadows, and Plumb Rd-Wiese Rd accesses. Water level is extraordinarly low, exposing many old stumps along the old creek shoreline, especially in the shallow norther reaches of the reservoir above the Sunbury Bridge. Highlights included:

White pelican - the single holdout was still at the far northern end of the reservoir in the morning, but couldn't be relocated there later. Keep an eye out for it if you visit.

Waterfowl - Cormorants, Shovelers, Green-winged teal, and Hooded mergansers were all at the far northern end, which is best seen from the Plumb Rd access. The lowere reaches were surprisingly light in the way of waterfowl.

Turkey Vultures - 110+ scattered along the reservoir shore, either flying or sitting on the gravel

Shorebirds - a surprising late push put quite a few on the mudflats at the northern end of the reservoir, which included 100+ Kildeer, 1 WILLET, 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 1 indeterminate big plover (Black-bellied or Golden), 20 Dunlin, 1 SANDERLING, and 20 indeterminate shorebirds (too far to ID)

Gulls - big influx of Bonaparte's, with over 200 total, noted at all stops.

Tree Swallows - a flock of 30 was milling over the water surface just north of the CountyLine Bridge

Vireo- 1 Blue-headed was with a flock of Yellow-rumps at Maxtown boat launch, where the small woodlot south of the launch is a fairly good migrant trap.

Thrushes - small flocks of Robins everywhere, but no other thrushes or mimids other than small migrant flocks of E.Bluebirds (5 at Maxtown, 7 at Hoover Meadows)

Warblers - only Yellow-rumped, but lots of them (perhaps 60 on the morning)

Sparrows - good mix at Hoover Meadows, where there were 8 Chipping, 16+ Field, 15+ Song, 2 Swamp, 25 White-throated, and 2 Juncos, all in about a half hour.

Blackbirds - on the wane, with only a few stray Redwings and grackles noted.

Finches - single Pine Siskins were heard both at Hoover Meadows and at Wiese Road
