only one (1) purple sandpiper was found on the breakwall at headlands beach state park today (11/24). we left the bird as it fed on the rocks about 150 yards from the beginning of the breakwall. other birds of note yesterday and today were: little gull, one (1) adult on 11/23 and one (1) first-winter today; one first-winter franklin's gull today, and one (1) adult black-headed gull seen by one observer both yesterday and today. in addition to the rare gulls noted above the spectacle of thousands of bonaparte's gulls in fairport harbor, at the mouth of the grand river, and along the close lakefront makes for wonderful birding.
