I just finished watching a flock of 28 southward-bound Sandhill Cranes
soaring over my house in southwest Hilliard. I was just getting out of my
car and heard the distinctive high-pitched "ratchety" call of Sandhill
Cranes in the distance, and sure enough, there was a flock of them circling
to gain altitude. They came from the north and continued their southward
course, flying directly over my house. They didn't seem at all interested in
landing, just moving through. I've seen some pretty good yard birds, but
that is definitely near the top of my list. That's actually the first time
I've seen those east of the Mississippi. My wife says my life is just one
continuous game of "I spy". :) She's right.
