Larry Gara, John Habig, and I visited Grand Lake St. Marys, Van Wert,
Bressler, and Metzger-Ferguson reservoirs Saturday, Nov 1.
As Andy S. mentioned, Grand Lake did not have many waterfowl (but had
lots of gulls). Highlights there were 1 male Canvasback and 2 Horned Grebes,
a few Rusty Blackbirds near Windy Point.
At the Van Wert reservoirs we just saw Ruddys and a few Lesser Scaup,
Canada Geese.
Bressler had the best diversity:
Canada Geese
1 American Wigeon
2 American Black Duck
10 Mallard
1 Northern Shoveler
2 Redhead
5 Ring-necked
5 Lesser Scaup
2 Bufflehead
1 Common Merganser
2 Hooded Merganser
350 Ruddy Duck
5 Pied-billed Grebe
4 Horned Grebe
Also a few flyover American Pipits.
At Metzger-Ferguson, among the hundreds of Ruddys were1 female Canvasback,
3 Bufflehead, 4 Ring-necked, a few Mallard. The highlight there were the
26 Snow Buntings allowing very nice views as they fed along the causeway.
