A quick visit to both of these sites in Westerville (NE Columbus suburb) found that the cold weather had pushed out many land birds and water birds.  The Long-tailed Duck remains at Shrock Lake in Sharon Woods, diving often to find who-knows-what to eat on the Lake bottom.  Also present on the Lake were 2 Pied-billed grebes, 14 Wood Ducks, 30 Mallards, 2 Hooded Mergansers, and 20 Canada Geese.  Lower Hoover Reservoir, despite having a much more substantial body of water, had only 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 10 Mallards, and 50 Canada Geese.

Looking for landbirds around the dam, Areas E-F, Maxtown boat launch, and Sharon Woods found little, except in the few spots that had poison ivy berries.  At Maxtown, a berry patch had attracted E.Bluebirds, Yellow-rumped warblers, and the usual small flock of chickadees and downy woodpeckers.  A similar patch in Sharon Woods had a surprisingly similar group of birds, plus Red-bellied Woodpeckers, a Hermit Thrush, and Titmice.  Look around for these fruit patches in this cold weather and you're likely to find an interesting cluster of birds.
