I used this cold morning to check on areas along the Scioto River, starting at Kiwanis park in Dublin and working north to O'Shaughnessy dam, Twin Lakes, and other points around the O'Shaughnessy reservoir. Migrant waterfowl, gulls, and even a cluster of Great Blue Herons were present, but distribution and numbers were spotty. Notables included:

Great Blue Herons - a few were scattered around Twin Lakes and the lower reservoir, but the prize was a roosting migrant flock of 40 north of Area P (Pylon Point) at the far northern end of the reservoir.

Waterfowl - despite the low water levels, the reservoir had some ducks, with a few flocks of Hooded Mergansers, Coots, and a handful of Bufflehead. The Quarries north of Twin Lakes held 15-20 Ring-necked Ducks and a few Wood Ducks, while the very shallow Twin Lakes had Mallards, Black Ducks (2), and Green-winged teal (5).

Loon,Grebe - yes, there were only singles of each: a single Common Loon in the middle of the reservoir, and a single Pied-billed Grebe down near the dam.

Shorebirds - despite the surprising amount of mudflat, especially north of the Home Rd. Bridge, I could only find Kildeer, and not many of those. The cold has probably done in their food items in the mud.

Gulls - good movement, with 200 Ring-bills and 300 Bonaparte's scattered along the Reservoir. Many were resting on the new mudflats above the Home Rd. Bridge.

Landbirds - no great numbers anywhere, but notable were a Pileated at Twin Lakes. 2 Fox Sparrows at both Twin Lakes and Kiwanis, and a flyover Lapland Longspur near the middle of the reservoir. Eastern Bluebirds were at several locations, with the largest # being 7 at Twin Lakes.
