Hi Hideta and others,
A few years ago I was offered a copy of Winter World, the ingenuity of animal survival, by Bernd Heinrich and published by HarperCollins in 2003. It offers some interesting insights on how certain birds, kinglets in particular are able to survive when there seems to be nothing to eat. It also covers animal hibernators as well, but the section on kinglets is amazing. I too was surprised and encouraged as I read Heinrich's accounts of work that he and his students have done in this area. Hope you can find a copy and enjoy!
