Thanks to John Blakeman for all the great information about Red-tailed Hawks.? The bird was seen just 1.5 miles south of my house here in northeast Stark County at the edge of a farm field a few miles west of Alliance. I do not have a photo and cannot say if it was smaller or not. Maybe I will see it again closer?or earlier in the day. All I can say is that it was very dark looking with a very rufous looking chest
and a red tail. I knew there is a lot of variation in these Buteos but was not aware of the rufousy eastern subspecies. I will keep this in mind in case I run into it again. Thanks again.
