Greetings birders -

I visited the lake today, from Cleveland west to Avon Lake, starting at 9 am, ending at 3 pm.

Highlights:

Perkins Beach Fishing Access/Edgewater:
Little Gull - 1 adult
Pomarine Jaeger - 1 dark morph far out; scope needed to enjoy properlyLong-tailed Duck - 1 female
Great numbers of mergansers; lesser numbers of goldeneye, bufflehead, ruddy ducks, distant flock of scoter spp.

Rocky River Park:
Pomarine Jaeger - 1 dark morph; enjoyed decent views from platform AND from Bradstreet's Landing; great bird
White-winged Scoter - 2
Great numbers of mergansers (3000+, scaup, bufflehead, etc.)

Avon Lake Power Plant:
Red-breasted Mergansers - 8,000+ (massive, massive numbers moving offshore)
ICELAND GULL - a single 3rd year bird is on the "early" side
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 2 adults, 1 first year

There are just SWARMS of birds on the lakefront; still huge flocks of Bonaparte's Gulls...mergansers, and clouds of waterfowl in general.

SCOPES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, as scanning with binoculars just can't get you the sheer numbers of birds.

best of birding -
jen
