After Rob Thorn's report of some night-herons at Whittier recently, I
remembered during a walk across the OSU campus today to look for them
across from the Drake Union. Caught without binoculars, I was
nevertheless able to see an adult perched across the river there,
signaling the resumption of this traditional winter roost. It's averaged
15-20 birds, adults and youngsters, in recent years, and no one knows
where they come from.
Good birds to all,
Bill Whan
Columbus
