I walked around the Goldenrod Trail, Thoreau Lake trail, and the Streamside/Overlook loop in the morning, enjoying the falling leaves before the rain started in earnest. Thoreau Lake held the first squadron of 50 Black Ducks, as well as pairs of Gadwall and Wood Ducks. Forest birds were very active, probably hurrying their foraging in anticipation of the changing weather, but there was little out of the ordinary. Other highlights included small flocks of E.Bluebirds flying over several areas near the Nature Center, a Purple Finch and a Fox Sparrow along the Goldenrod Trail, and Pine Siskins in several areas of the park. This is the fourth straight day that I've seen siskins in the northeast Columbus area, all in different areas.
