This weekend's southerly winds didn't look so good for seeking gulls along L. Erie, but I thought it might be good for sea ducks etc.   I started today at Conneaut harbor, it was very good there with:  250 Canada geese, 11 tundra swans, mallards, Am. black ducks, greater & lesser scaup, RING-NECKED DUCK, buffleheads, 2 BLACK SCOTERS, 1 LONG-TAILED DUCK, 5 hooded mergansers, red-breasted mergansers, 2 ruddy ducks, Am. coot, 600+ Bonaparte's gulls, only 2 great black-backed gulls, a SHORT-EARED OWL hanging around one of the outer breakwalls, and Am. tree sparrow.  Nearby at Malek Park was a flock of 11 snow buntings.  At Lake Shore Park in Ashtabula were 11 buffleheads, c. goldeneyes, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, hooded merganser, red-breasted mergansers, 200 common mergansers, 100 Bonaparte's gulls, great black-backed gull, and a belted kingfisher.  Headed south inland in Ashtabula Co. I didn't see much except 2 Am. kestrels and a pileated woodpecker.  I
stopped at the Pymatuning causeway, there was only 1 freezing open-water hole; 650 Canada geese were the only inhabitants.  A snow bunting showed up at the parking lot to cap off the day...........Craig
