Shane Egleston called to let me know he found 1 Greater White-Fronted Goose with hundreds of Canada geese on the Great Miami River near the dam in West Carrollton. By the time I got there the White-Fronted was gone, but on the river we also saw
Common Merganser - 1 male
Common Goldeneye - 1 male
Greater Scaup - 4 male - we watched these fly in and could see the white on both primaries and secondaries, and also noted the head shape once they landed
Hooded Merganser
Mallard
There were around a dozen American Pipits foraging on the ground in the area.
From there we headed to the Barrett Paving gravel pits, but on the way we found over a thousand Canada geese feeding in the corn stubble along Farmersville W. Carrollton Rd. just west of Infirmary Rd. In addition to the Canada geese we found
Greater White-fronted Goose- 4
Cackling Goose - 2
Snow Goose - 1 white
Mallard - hundreds
Also a white domestic-looking goose.
