This may be surprising to birders in tropical climates like Columbus and
Cincinnati, but it has been very cold in northwest Ohio for the last couple
of days. The snow that fell Tuesday night is mostly still in place, the
thick ice that coated everything Friday morning is still in place, and it
won't melt any time before Wednesday. For tomorrow, temperatures are
predicted to be 25 degrees at dawn but dropping all day, with 25-30 mph
winds, and wind chills pushing 20 below zero.

The CBC at Fremont (Sandusky Co.) scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday Dec. 21) is
being postponed. The new date has not been set yet, but it will be
announced on Ohio-Birds and on RareBird as soon as it's established.
Compiler / organizer John Sawvel is looking at all the options for alternate
dates.

Tom Kemp just announced on RareBird (http://www.rarebird.org) that
tomorrow's count for Rudolph (Wood Co.) is also being postponed, with the
new date likely to be Dec. 28; those interested should check back on
RareBird later to see if that date has been confirmed.

At this season, when even Rudolph isn't willing to go out, you know the
weather is bad!

Please convey this information to anyone you know who was planning to go on
one of these two counts and who isn't online.

Thanks
Kenn Kaufman
