I took a good look around my home turf today to see what birds were toughing out the Arctic blast.  The Struthers stretch of the Mahoning River is usually interesting for waterbirds when all the local ponds and lakes are frozen, and today was no exception.  Gathered there were 200 Canada geese, 50 mallards, 3 Am. black ducks, a GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 buffleheads, 3 c. goldeneyes, 10 hooded mergansers, great blue heron, and belted kingfisher.  North of the river in Poland Twp. and Coitsville Twp. I found 12 wild turkeys, sharp-shinned hawk, 7 red-tailed hawks, 2 red-shouldered hawks, 2 n. flickers, 12 e. bluebirds, 2 n. mockingbirds, only a couple each Am. tree and song sparrows,  5 white-throated sparrows, and ~100 dark-eyed juncos.  Later, Craig
