Hi all,

Bernie Master passed along news that he had over 30 White-winged
Crossbills at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus between 1 pm and 2 pm this
afternoon. He captured 31 of them in one photo, and there were more. The
X-bills were, fittingly, in section X which is near the northwestern
part of the cemetery, not too far from the Brown Rd. entrance (which is
usually closed). There are numerous large hemlock, spruce, and other
conifers in that area and that's where the birds were to be found.

Many of the large conifers in Green Lawn have a good cone crop, so the
birds might linger for a while, and may even be joined by others.

If you go, keep an eye out for Merlin, which has been there the last few
winters.

Good luck, and don't get your bill bent out of shape if you don't find
them right off. The cemetery is 360 acres and crossbills do roam. Key in
on the area where Bernie had them, and keep an eye on all of the large
cone-laden conifers.

Jim
