The island was mostly ice bound this morning Dec. 26th but there were still
60 Tundra Swans in an open hole just north of Buckeye Point (the far eastern
end of South Bass Island.) There were also about 100 common goldeneye and
about 50 mallards in the open hole as well. About 50 tree sparrows were
flying around the point.
30 Snow buntings were found at the South Bass Island State Park Beach on
Dec. 24th. None were found today as some of the snow cover has melted.
A hermit thrush made a brief appearance in my new heated bird bath (inland
on South Bass)on Dec. 24th. Have not seen it again since.
