While driving south on St. Rt. 37 this morning, I noticed at least 7 Snow Geese feeding with a large flock of Canadas in a picked cornfield on the west side of the road, between St. Rt. 40 and I-70.  There were at least 3 white geese and 4 or more dark-phase geese.

I had a real treat yesterday: while working at my church south of Newark, I was lucky enough to watch a Northern Harrier hunting over an alfalfa field; it pounced and briefly fed on the catch.  I'd seen Kestrels "hover-hunt", but never a Harrier.

It never ceases to amaze me what neat things you can see when not really "birding".  It just goes to show that you should never leave your binocs at home.
