I had a chance to bird in Northwest Ohio this morning and had several good
birds. The best was a BARN OWL. I saw it flying low over a field along
Zenzer Road between Lemon and Darsch Roads in Ottawa County. This is a
couple miles southeast of the Magee Marsh entrance. The bird was flying
south and flew across Zenzer Road and over Turtle Creek and kept going. I
was unable to relocate it.

At Ottawa Refuge I was surprised to have two pure flocks of northern
pintails. One flock was 38 birds and the second 24 birds. Pintails are
often one of the earliest migrants in the spring in Ohio. With the marshes
being mostly frozen it did not appear logical that they were wintering. I
received an email from Alan Wormington this evening relaying a report of 300
pintail near Point Pelee today. They also had a few other dabbling ducks up
there today. It might pay to watch what's flying tomorrow, especially with
a cold front coming.

Also of note at Ottawa Refuge was a single GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE
amongst a flock of Canada geese and about 100 tundra swans in the fields
near the refuge. At Magee Marsh there was a NORTHERN SHRIKE along the
causeway almost at the end of the road.
