Less than a week ago, all major bodies of water were 90% frozen including the Upper Sandusky reservoir and most of the quarries and all of the Sandusky river; then came the rain!

The Sandusky river, out of it's bank at the traditional spot on CH29, held a good variety of waterfowl this morning.

The most noteworthy were at least 80 Pintail, Ring necked ducks, Shovelers, Black Ducks, and Mallards. Also over 400 Canada Geese were present along with 5 Bald Eagles.

Waterfowl were constantly in and out of the area, and I hope this area holds true to form during the Carey Christmas bird count this Saturday. Waterfowl is sometimes touch and go on this bird count depending on open water.
