The 2008 Cincinnati Christmas Bird Count total is now officially at 92 total species, which ties our second highest all-time total recorded in 2004. We also have one count week species, American Wigeon. The additional species added to the count total was 5 Green-winged Teal. The day after the count and grand tally, I received an email about these teal from a count participant who was unable to attend the tally.

We were never questioning the Green-winged Teal report based on the species relative abundance. In fact several were seen in the count circle just the day before and we have had them on 13 of the past 17 counts with a record high of 39 individuals in 2005. The question arose from conflicting information concerning the report that has now been favorably resolved.
