A quick stop at Lake White on Thursday morning was rewarded with a Ross's Goose that was in the company of a Snow Goose and good numbers of Lesser Scaup and Mallard Ducks. This raft of waterfowl was first seen from SR 104, then studied more safely from the parking area on the SE corner of the Lake, and more closely from a pull-off area on the opposite side of the Lake. A scope is recommended. Nice size comparisons with the Snow Goose and Mallards were easily made; the Ross's being noticeably smaller than the Snow, and about the same size as a drake Mallard. The Ross's also had a more rounded head and short bill with no "smile". Although a complete search of the Lake wasn't made, the previously-reported White-fronted and Cackling Geese were not found. Lake White is located on the West side of SR 104 just South of Waverly, OH. For more information about Lake White State Park, you can check this website: http://www.stateparks.com/lake_white.html
