Greetings everyone...strange subject line ain't it. :-)

I know this has nothing to do with birds and birding...and all but maybe five of you will scratch your head and go "What in the world is he going on about?" I beg the indulgence of everyone as this arrives in their inbox but, a question was asked while I was at Greenlawn, and I don't have the actual email of the person who asked, but I know he post to the list. So here is the answer to the question that was asked.

I DID ask my wife... and I stumped the Jeopardy Queen of useless info. So she couldn't rest until she got an answer. She googled and googled and after being scared out of her PJs by some ghost stories she came up with this Gbook: The Everything Family Tree Book. Link follows:

http://books.google.com/books?id=IEJABnHTlnAC&printsec=frontcover&dq=The+Everything+Family+Tree+Book#PPA2032,M1

According to Page 133;

The answer to-Why do some tombstone markers have drapes or curtains or a covering like the ones we saw is:

"Especially popular during the Victorian period, draperies are a touch of home, meant to make the deceased comfortable during the trip to the afterlife. Curtains are usually carved partially lowered or closed, representing mortal life coming to an end."

If you think about it..it sort of makes sense.

So if you are ever on Jeopardy...

Later and Happy Birding

Steve
