After much hype, gulling at E 72nd St was a bit
dissappointing this morning. Ice has indeed invaded
the area, leaving an open patch at the hot water
outlet - and another sizeable sliver far out near the
breakwall. However, most of the birds remained
sitting on the ice throughout the morning - getting up
only to move farther and farther out on the ice pack.
This is not to discourage, though, this spot will have
its share of action soon enough. Plenty of sharp eyes
were on hand and we saw the following:

Thayer's 1 1st
Iceland 7 1st (6), 2nd
Glaucous 4 1st (2), 3rd, ad
Lesser Black-backed Gull 3 ad

Avon Lake also has open water, and plenty of diving
ducks, none unusual. A young Iceland was the only
different gull sp.

If the word 'at' is in the address, replace it with
the at 'sign.'

Good birding -
