A small group braved the cold this morn for a 2 mile walk in the north
part of Glen Helen.

Mostly, we found that the birds were asleep along with most of humanity,
but by and by, we found many of the winter residents expected:

Mourning dove
Belted kingfisher
Red-bellied woodpecker
Yellow-bellied sapsucker
Downy woodpecker
Blue jay
American crow
Carolina chickadee
Tufted titmouse
White-breasted nuthatch
American robin
White-throated sparrow
Dark-eyed junco
Northern cardinal
American goldfinch

Happy new year!
