I had a juvie Goshawk culling birds from my feeder yesterday.  It perched right above the feeder with its back to me giving me a very good look at the tail bands and mottled back.  A crow perched above showed me it was considerably larger  than a Cooper's.  The crow soon summoned friends, and the hawk flew off with what remained of his meal.  Unfortunately, I couldn't see what bird it took-just some blood was left on the snow-covered limb when I went out to look.

On Sunday, there was a Cooper's Hawk trying to get into the frozen former Christmas tree we put near the feeders to provide shelter for smaller birds.

Like others on the list, I've had pine siskins for a couple of weeks-never more than 10 at a time.  I'm surprised at how close they permit me to come when I'm getting ready to refill the thistle feeder.  They've been feeding with dark-eyed juncos and goldfinches.
