Edna Armstrong and I along with her parents had a grand day at Woodlawn
Cemetery in Toledo on Monday afternoon.

1. White-winged Crossbill - 60+ birds. They would split-up in small groups
and head in all directions. Most fed on Hemlock seeds but several small
groups were eating seeds from the spruce tree cones.
2. Common Redpoll - about 10 birds eating seeds from the Sweet Gum Tree
pods.
3. Pine Siskin - about 10 birds eating right along with the Common Redpolls.
4. American Goldfinch - about 30 birds again, eating Sweet Gum seeds.
5. Rough-legged Hawk - a beautiful dark morph adult soared by around 1:30
pm.
6. Merlin - an adult male sitting on top of a huge Sycamore tree.
7. Red-tailed Hawk - 1 adult and 1 immature bird.
8. Cooper's Hawk - 1 chasing the crossbills around; darn that bird!
9. Great Blue Heron - 1 sitting in a tree.
10. Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 seen flying.
11. Dark-eyed Junco - a huge group sitting on the snow.
12. A. Tree Sparrow -many along with the juncos.
13. Northern Cardinal - awesome bright red males in the snow.
14. American Robins - several fly-over birds.
15. Northern Flicker - one calling from a huge oak tree.
16. Downy & Hairy Woodpeckers - 2 each.
17. Song Sparrows - we saw 6 birds.
18. Carolina Wren - heard one.
19. Brown Creeper - heard one and then saw it fly into the woods.
20. B.C. Chickadee - heard three.
21. House Finch - saw one colorful male.
22. Mourning Doves - one large flock in a Sycamore tree.
23. Rock Pigeons - several fly-over's.
24. E. Starlings - several fly-over's.

Our best mammal was a RED FOX playing on the frozen pond under one of the
bridges.

The White-winged Crossbills were life birds for Edna Armstrong and her mom.
