I checked Hoover Reservoir in Columbus this morning but it is now completely ice covered above the dam. At the below dam area, in the flowing water, there was a large concentration of Canada Geese, Mallards and Black Ducks with only a few Northern Pintail, Redheads, Hooded Mergansers and Common Goldeneye. The Northern Shovelers, Gadwall and American Wigeon that had been present below the dam prior to the extreme cold spell were no longer found.

As you leave the parking lot from the below dam area, on the left hand side of the road, there is a good concentration of pine trees which held a single Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

Good January Birding,

Ken Davis

Westerville, OH
