From Linda, Dave, Denis and Tom
Jan. 1
The northern Saw-whet owl was present in spruce tree behind behind Dike 14
fence nw of park headquarters building. You had to stand close to fence to
see it.

In another pine tree near building were a couple of dead birds dangling from
the tree. They looked sort of like owl pellets, but they were way to big for
a saw-whet. Linda took another look and realized they were two birds that
died by getting stuck in monofilament fishing line that became wrapped
around trunk of pine about 10 ft. off the ground probably by wind. I imagine
the birds got stuck in line and died from starvation in fishing line.
Fisherman need to properly dispose of line and not throw it out as litter. I
don't want to pass judgement, but some fisherman treat where they fish as an
open garbage can!

We also saw a bald eagle fly over with a rather large fish in talons.

To add to Gabe's list of gulls we had a good look at a bird that appeared to
be a California Gull near 55th breakwall, along with a pintail, black scaup,
redhead, and mallards..
