Hi all,

Yesterday, about 115 slightly loony but great folks gathered for the annual
OOS/Wilds winter raptor field trip. We had some 200 people signed on, but
many of them came to their senses and politely canceled. Can't blame them -
the temperature when we convened at 9 am was somewhere in the vicinity of
TEN BELOW ZERO. Some people reported temps as low as 18 below in the area,
according to their car thermometers. That's pretty cold by any standard. A
big thanks to everyone that made it out and braved the conditions. Special
thanks to Marc Nolls for organizing the affair, and compiling the collective
checklist, which is reported below. The group that I was with had a lot of
fun, and I hope everyone else did, too. It certainly made for a memorable
adventure. We really appreciate the help and support of the Wilds and its
staff, and all of the topflight birders that made themselves available to
help lead field trips. If you would like to relive the excursion, or live
vicariously through my camera lens, visit my blog:
