Well, it was a wonderful afternoon to be birding in Englewood Metropark.  
As soon as I turned into the North Park, there was a Rough-legged Hawk 
perched in a tree just to the left.  Also in the North Park, I saw two 
(one male, one female) Northern Harriers searching for their dinner.  In 
the adjoining fields, there were nice mixed flocks of Horned Larks and 
Snow Buntings.

Over in the Main Park, there were several more Northern Harriers hunting 
along Patty's Road, at least three female and two male.  In addition were 
two Red-tailed Hawks and six Northern Flickers in one shrub.  I don't 
recall ever having seen as many as six Flickers perched together like that.

However, the highlight of the afternoon/evening was a lone Short-eared Owl 
hunting over the field across the highway from the Patty's Road entrance.  
Right about 6 p.m., the Harriers clocked out for the day and out he (or 
she) came, fluttering about over the field.

Anyway, Englewood Metropark has become a great relief from the winter 
doldrums.
