Corrigendum: This compiler erroneously reported in the January 15, 2009
Ohio RBA that Ed and Bev Neubauer reported a Pine Siskin on Martindale
Road on the 13th. This was actually a Common Redpoll.

Greater White-fronted Geese: Jay Lehman reported five were at the West
Carrollton gravel pit on the 17th.

Snow Goose: Bob Foppe reported that there was one blue-phase at Camp
Dennison on the 16th. Brian Wulker reported on the 16th that a total of
eight flew over while he was at Camp Dennison. Rob Lowry reported 36
were at Melvin Quarry on the 16th. Larry Gara went back to Melvin Quarry
on the afternoon of the 16th and found 12 remaining. On the 16th Bob
Royse saw four in a borrow pit on the east side of Rte 23 south of
Chillicothe. One was still present on the 17th. Jonathon Frodge reported
one flew over Atherton Rd while he and Samantha Sayre were there on the
16th. Rob Thorn reported one was on the Scioto River just downstream
from Greenlawn on the 17th. Mike Busam had three on the Great Miami
River in the City of Hamilton on the 18th. Greg Bennett reported one at
Berlin Res on the 18th. John Hemp found eight at Kilby Rd Ponds on the
21st. Larry Gara was at Melvin Quarry on the 22nd where he saw 32.

Ross's Goose: Barb Hohman reported her husband found one at Devola's Dam
(Muskingum Lock #2) on the 19th.

Cackling Goose: Rob Lowry saw five or six at Melvin Quarry on the 16th.
Jonathon Frodge reported he had one fly over Miami Whitewater Wetlands
on the 16th. Mike Busam had two below the Miami-Hamilton low dam in the
City of Hamilton on the 18th. Eric Burkholder found two at Campbell
Lakes in Hamilton County on the 18th. One was on the ice at E. 72nd St
on the 19th. John Hemp found eight at Kilby Rd Ponds on the 21st.

Wood Duck: Donald Morse reported that three were in Jackson Lake on Old
SR 74 in Eastgate on the 16th. One remained on Buck Creek near the Croft
Rd bridge on the 17th. Jay Lehman reported two on the Scioto River on
the 17th just downstream from the Rivers Edge office complex. Bob Royse
reported two were just upstream from the Rivers Edge office complex on
the 18th. Craig Holt reported a hen along the Cuyahoga River from Bath
Rd on the 22nd.

White-winged Scoter: Craig Holt reported one immature male at Eastlake
power plant on the 22nd.

Black Scoter: Ben Warner reported that three were at the Eastlake power
plant on the 18th.

Golden Eagle: One was reported at The Wilds on the 17th.

Merlin: Craig Holt reported on the 16th that he saw one just south of
Summit Lake. Eric Burkholder found one at Armleder Park on the 16th. Rob
Thorn reported there was one or two at Greenlawn Cemetery on the 17th.
One was in Section X and possibly a second one in the south end of the
cemetery. Lou Gardella reported on the 17th at least two are still being
seen in Calvary Cemetery. Lou reports the best areas to try for them are
in sections 85, 83, and 90. One was seen at The Wilds on the 17th.
Donald Morse reported on the 18th that one was in New Richmond. On the
18th one was just north of Kent on Johnson Road. One was seen at
Woodlawn Cemetery on the 18th. John Hill reported one was at Armleder
Park on the 21st. Allan Claybon reported one at Old St. Joseph's
Cemetery on the 21st.

Virginia Rail: Shane Egleston saw two at Spring Valley WA on the 20th.
To get to the spot from the upper parking lot on Pence-Jones Rd (closest
to the boardwalk) walk down the hill just as if you were going to the
boardwalk. At the very bottom of the hill take the main path to the
right, instead of taking the one to the boardwalk. Follow this to the
first left (maybe 100 yards). This is where the spring enters the marsh.
Turn left here and go approximately 50 yards. The rails have been seen
on the left side of the trail here.

Killdeer: One was seen on Bass Island in the Little Miami River on the
18th.

Wilson's Snipe: Mike Busam had one at the lagoon outfall near Riverside
Park in the City of Hamilton on the 18th. Shane Egleston sighted one at
Spring Valley WA on the 19th near the spring.

Thayer's Gull: Gabe Leidy reported one adult was at E. 72nd St on the
17th. Ben Warner reported one adult and possibly two first-year birds at
E. 72nd St on the 18th.

Iceland Gull: Two were seen by Gabe Leidy at E. 72nd St on the 17th.
Eight-plus were seen, including one adult, at E. 72nd St on the 18th.
Ben Warner reported four first-cycle birds at Eastlake power plant on
the 18th.

Lesser Black-backed Gull: Two first-year, one third-year and two adults
were seen at E. 72nd St on the 18th.

Glaucous Gull: Two were seen by Gabe Leidy at E. 72nd St on the 17th. On
the 18th five-plus including one adult were seen at E. 72nd St. Ben
Warner reported one adult and multiple second-cycle and third-cycles on
the 18th at E. 72nd St. Ben also reported that two first-cycle and one
second-cycle birds were at Eastlake power plant on the 18th.

Snowy Owl: Ben Warner reported one continued at the east end of Burke
Airport on the 18th. Tom Bartlett reported one was on the ice on the SE
side of Kelley's Island on the 20th during his monthly census.

Long-eared Owl: Regina Schieltz reported her brother and a cousin found
two at the Darke WA on the 17th. Brenda Baber and Emil Bacik heard two
calling on Mechanicsville Rd in Hartsgrove Twp, Ashtabula County on the
18th.

Eastern Phoebe: Jonathon Frodge found one on Round Bottom Rd at Round
Bottom Recycling on the 18th. Bob Royse had one along the Scioto River
upstream from and across the river from Rivers Edge office complex on
the 18th.

Northern Shrike: One remains at Crane Creek SP on the 18th. It was seen
in the marsh near the lake. One has been present in the area since at
least December 20, 2008. Gabe Leidy reported the bird that has been
present at Jaite Marsh was still present on the 17th. Rob Lowry reported
one was still at Deer Creek SP in the area of the beach on the 18th.
This bird was also seen on the 22nd by Shane Egleston.

Red-breasted Nuthatch: Bob Royse saw eight at Shawnee SF on the 16th.
Bob Powell had one at his feeder in Clinton County on the 17th. One was
seen by Troy Shively at the feeders near the Pit in Greenlawn Cemetery
on the 17th. One was seen at Thoreau Lake at Blendon Woods on the 17th.
Glen Crippen reported two near the Burr Oak SP ranger station on the
19th. Gabe Leidy reported two were at Hinckley Reservation on the 22nd.

Winter Wren: Jay Lehman found one at Spring Valley WA on the 17th.
Steven Rice had two in Blue Ash on the 18th. Shane Egleston relocated
the bird at Spring Valley WA almost at the end of the boardwalk on the
19th.

Marsh Wren: Shane Egleston relocated one along the boardwalk at Spring
Valley WA on the 19th.

Ruby-crowned Kinglet: Ken Davis reported one was in the conifers along
the drive to the parking lot located below the dam at Hover Res on the
17th. Bob Foppe reported one was seen during a Cincinnati Bird Club
meeting on the 18th.

Northern Mockingbird: One was seen behind the Bayshore power plant in
Toledo on the 18th. Craig Holt found one along the Mahoning River in the
Lowellville-Struthers section on the 18th. Jim Dolan reported two were
at Mill Creek Wildlife Sanctuary on the 19th. One was found along
Marginal Rd just east of Burke Airport on the 19th. Glen Crippen found a
vocal bird on the campus of Ohio University on the 19th. Craig Holt
found one in Coitsville Twp on the 20th.

American Pipit: Charlie Bombaci located two in the area of Miller-Paul
Rd east of Hoover Res in southern Delaware County on the 20th.

Chipping Sparrow: Bob Royse had one visit his feeder on the 16th and it
was still present on the 18th. One was continuing to come to the feeders
at the Brown Family Environmental Center on the 17th.

Savannah Sparrow: Bob Foppe reported seven-plus were seen at Armleder
Park on the 18th.

Fox Sparrow: One has been coming to a private feeder near the Toledo
Botanical Gardens since December 6, 2008. Ed and Bev Neubauer reported
one was at Englewood MP on the 17th. One was seen at the Blendon Woods
window feeder on the 17th. One was seen at the Spring Valley WA feeders
on the 18th. Adam Cirone saw one at the Highbanks MP feeders on the
19th.

Lapland Longspur: Two were in the beach parking lot at Caesar Creek SP
on the 16th. Jonathan Frodge reported some along Atherton Rd in Hamilton
County on the 16th. Dave Hess reports three were along Eastern Ave south
of Chillicothe on the 17th. Albert Scruggs and Julie Morris had one on
Baughman Rd near Miami Whitewater Wetlands on the 17th. A few were found
at the corner of Jackson Rd and Garrison Rd south of Springfield on the
16th. Regina Schieltz saw one between Versailles and Greenville on the
17th. Charlie Bombaci located 11 in the area of Miller-Paul Rd east of
Hoover Res in southern Delaware County on the 20th.

Snow Bunting: The snow covering the fields has gathered the buntings
into flocks nearer the roadsides making them easier to find than in
previous weeks. Jonathan Frodge reported some along Atherton Rd in
Hamilton County on the 16th mixed in with longspurs. A flock of about 90
was reported by Dave Hess to be along Eastern Ave off of Rte 23 south of
Chillicothe on the 17th. The Neubauers reported three were along Old
Springfield Pike just outside Englewood MP on the 17th. Albert Scruggs
reported two were on Baughman Rd on the 17th. A few were found at the
corner of Jackson Rd and Garrison Rd south of Springfield on the 16th.
More were seen on Jackson Rd near South Pitchin Rd the same day. Regina
Schieltz reported that three flocks of Horned Larks had buntings mixed
in with them between Versailles and Greenville on the 17th. Andrew
Morrison reported that 100-150 were reported east of Middlefield on the
17th. On the 17th five were seen at The Wilds. On the 19th Margaret
Bowman saw three at the Coad Homestead along Rte 13 between St.
Louisville and Utica. Cindy Beckman reported on the 18th finding some
mixed in with Horned Larks and Lapland Longspurs on
Bellbrook-Waynesville Road between Bellbrook and Centerville Road,
Houston Road between Roxanna-New Burlington Road and Cornstalk Road,
Compton Road south of Roxanna-New Burlington Road, Cornstalk Road
between Spring-Valley Paintersville Road and Houston Road, and Spring
Valley-Paintersville Road just east of Rt. 42 at the intersection with
Cornstalk Road. Some were in the fields surrounding the north portion of
Englewood MP on the 18th. Glen Crippen had 45 fly over him while at Burr
Oak SP in Morgan County on the 19th. Charlie Bombaci located 57 in the
area of Miller-Paul Rd east of Hoover Res in southern Delaware County on
the 20th. Bob Powell located 25 on the north side of Sabina Rd just east
of Prairie Rd (DeLorme 66D3SW).

Dickcissel: Bruce Simpson reported the bird was still coming to the
feeder at Blendon Woods MP on the 17th. The best time to see the bird
appears to be between 11 and Noon in the morning and 3 to 4 in the
afternoon. Adam Cirone saw the bird on the 19th at the feeders. The bird
was seen at least through the 21st.

Red Crossbill: A male was seen at Woodlawn Cemetery on the 17th and
18th. On the 18th the bird was seen on the right just before getting to
the bridge.

White-winged Crossbill: Bill Whan reported that six were at Greenlawn
Cemetery on the 16th. The birds were in a three-trunked hemlock near
Areas H and X in the north part of the cemetery (the yellow-striped road
will take you past this point). Troy Shively reported up to 20 were in
Section 77 of Greenlawn Cemetery on the 17th. Many observers have seen
them at Greenlawn Cemetery through the 22nd. Sections "X" and 77 seem to
be good places to start your search. Tom Bartlett reported over 50 were
at Woodlawn Cemetery on the 17th. Up to 150 were at Woodlawn Cemetery on
the 18th. Tom Kemp reported there were as many as ten at the Perrysburg
Cemetery located at the northwest corner of Routes 65 and 25 on the
18th. Matt Anderson reported 65 were at Swan Creek Cemetery on the 18th.
They were seen there through the 21st. Aaron Boone located 23 in the Oak
Dale Cemetery on the southern edge of Urbana on the 19th. Doug Snapp saw
30-40 there on the 22nd. A flock of 25 was reported in Rose Hill Burial
Park located just west of the Summit Mall in the Fairlawn/Montrose area
on the 20th. At least four were still present there on the 21st. Look in
the rear of the cemetery for the birds. Bob Royse had four in his
Columbus yard on the 16th. Robert Jackson had two in spruce trees in his
yard in Broadview Heights on the 17th. On the west side of Toledo on
Jackman Rd six or seven were reported just west of the Greenwood Park
parking lot on the 17th. Tom Kemp reported 22 were in a spruce/pine
grove along Powell Rd just east of Rudolph Rd in Wood County on the
19th. Jim Dolan reported one at Mill Creek Wildlife Sanctuary on the
19th. Dave Brumfield and Save Stower found a flock of 18 at F. A.
Seiberling NatureRealm on the 19th. The birds were still present on the
21st. Glen Crippen reported a flock flew into some conifer trees at
Strouds Run SP on the 19th. Craig Holt reported four were along Cooper
Rd in Coitsville Twp on the 19th. A high count of 55 was reported in
Summit County as of the 20th. Twelve were at Crown Hill Cemetery off Rte
91 in Twinsburg on the 22nd. Joseph Miller reported 12 were feeding in a
Spruce Trees along Ivan Millers Lane near TR 628. Gabe Leidy reported
eight were at Hinckley Reservation on the 22nd.

Common Redpoll: Ben Warner reported one was at the Brown Family
Environmental Center feeders on the 16th and 17th. One visited Rick
Counts' feeder on the 16th and two on the 21st. Dave Dvorak reported one
was at the Rocky River Nature Center on the 16th. Matt Anderson reported
at least eight came to his feeder in Whitehouse on the 17th. Three
returned to his feeder on the 18th. Two were at a Medina County feeder
on the 17th. Woodlawn Cemetery had over 24 on the 17th. Su Snyder
reported that one was in Holmes County on the 17th. Steve McNamee has
one continuing to come to his feeder through the 18th. Craig Nilsson saw
one at his feeder a few miles south of Whitehouse on the 18th. Greg
Spahr reported a pair came to his Greene County feeder near Yellow
Springs on the 18th. A single bird was at Tim Shue's feeder north of
Kidron on the 18th. Two were at a feeder in Sandusky County on the 19th.
Cindy Beckman reported three have been present off and on at feeders at
a private residence just off of Upper Bellbrook Road about a mile east
of where Upper Bellbrook meets Feedwire.

Pine Siskin:  Some were observed by Dave Dvorak at the Rocky River
Nature Center feeders on the 16th. John Pogacnik reported 50-plus were
coming to his feeder on the 17th. Lou Gardella reported he had one at
his home in Garfield Heights. Jim McConnor reported four were at the
feeder near the shelter house in Swine Creek Park in Geauga County on
the 18th. Donald Morse reported he had 30 at his feeder in New Richmond
on the 18th. Dan Weber had about 30 coming to his feeder in Athens
County on the 18th. Greg Bennett reported 11 were at the Cascade Valley
MP on the 18th. Mike Sandy had one at his feeder in Rocky River on the
18th. Cindy Beckman saw one at a private residence north of Bellbrook on
the 18th. Glen Crippen reported there was a large flock on the campus of
Ohio University on the 19th. Lyn Miller reported two or three were at
her feeder on the 19th. Doug Vogel reported four vocal siskins were
present at F. A. Seiberling NatureRealm on the 20th. Six were found by
Tom Bartlett on Kelley's Island on the 20th. Gabe Leidy saw 11 at
Hinckley Reservation on the 22nd.
